5 Motivators to staying on track with your fitness

5 MOTIVATORS TO STAY ON TRACK WITH YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE

When it comes to managing a super hectic schedule (why aren't there more hours in a day?), daily to-dos that doesn't have tangible and immediate results tend to fall off your checklist--this includes exercise. Fact is, given the long-term benefits of exercise both physically and emotionally, this is the one thing we should not be skipping. Want to keep motivated? here are 5 reasons:

1. Boost productivity and brainpower: A study in Clinical Neurophysiology finds that 20 minutes of moderate exercise immediately increases attention and cognitive ability. "There's a shift in brain activity that enhances executive functioning, which plans, schedules, and coordinates thoughts and actions", stays author Charles H. Hillman, Ph.D. This  increased in focus can last up to an hour

2. Stronger Social Ties: just the fact that you're into fitness will improve people's perception of you. A recent study found that those who workout are perceived by peers as being more friendly, outgoing, personable, kind, and even more attractive than those who don't.

3. Get Glowing Skin: Sweating is good for your skin: some of the water evaporates to cool the body, and the rest is reabsorbed into the skin, giving you a nicely hydrated look post-workout.

4. Have Better Sex: as if this reason alone isn't enough to bring everybody to the gym! A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine found that women who completed a 20 minute treadmill run before watching an erotic video has a 150% increase in sexual arousal. "Exercise activates the sympathetic nervous system, which helps blood enter the vaginal tissue more readily and creates more vaginal lubrication when in a sexual situation" says Cindy Meston, Ph.D., director of Sexual Psychophysiology Lab at UofTexas at Austin.
And let's not forget, exercising strengthens endurance, stamina, and cardio workout will help you during a hot sexual encounter. Huffing and puffing during sex? not sexy. Let's all go to the gym.

5. Sleep Better. A 2011 study shows that moderately intense exercise (150 mins a week, preferably 30 mins a day, 5 days a week) helps study subjects fall asleep faster and feel less tired during daylight hours. Working out at the gym zaps stress and anxiety, and it helps the body regulate its own temperature better, helping you sleep more peacefully.
