AVOCADO banana smoothie....just in time for the Summer

AVOCADO BANANA SMOOTHIE:

just in time for the summer...avocados!!

1/2 a banana
1/2 an avocado
dash of cinnamon
1/3 cup Greek Yogurt
1 tsp Agave Nectar
120 ml of Coconut Water
1 tsp Chia Seeds
(optional: 1 scoop of your favorite protein)

From the popular book Eating in Color , recipe featured on Dr. Oz's website

This is surprisingly yummy....I've always known about the benefits of avocados, but found it difficult to consume in foods other than guacamole...this smoothie is the perfect breakfast, or mid-day snack. With all the nutrition in avocados, bananas, chia seeds, and coconut water, this smoothie is truly a superfood on its own. The calorie, protein, and fiber content can even qualify it as a meal.

Benefits of Eating Avocados:

  • healthy fats: most of it are monounsaturated, which is a "good" fat and it helps reduce bad cholesterol in your blood and lowers your risk of stroke and heart disease. Monounsaturated fats are what the good oils found in Olive Oil
  • protein: an average avocado contains around 4 grams of protein, which is MUCH more than most fruits
  • low sugar content compared to other fruits
  • excellent source of vitamins/minerals: potassium, Vitamin K, Vitamin B9, B6, B5, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E
  • Fiber: a medium avocado contains 11 grams of fiber
  • Lower Cholesterol: a study in the Archives of Medical Research found that an avocado enriched diet can improve your lipid profile
  • Lower risk of Coronary Artery Disease: a study published in the Nutrition Journal studied the link between avocado consumption and risks related to certain metabolic syndromes (the umbrella term for stroke, diabetes, and coronary artery disease)
